BIOGRAPHY OF ASS. PROF. BOZKURT ÞENER

Born in 1956 Bozkurt Þener completed his primary and secondary education in Galatasaray High School.

His university education started in 1975 in Istanbul University School of Medicine. In 1981 he made a degree as a medical doctor and started his M.A studies in the same year in the ophthalmology clinic  of Cerrahpasa School of Medicine. During his graduate education, he attended some courses in Dallas, USA  on vitreoretinal surgery. In 1984, he specialized in Ophthalmology.

In 1991 he became Ass. Professor in Cerrahpasa School of Medicine.

Between the years 1991-1999 he performed as a member of the faculty in the department of Eye Research Center'in Cerrahpaşa School of medicine.

In 1992 he introduced Laser Myopia surgeries to Turkey for the first time.

Today Turkey has more than 100 laser treatment centers, nearly 20 of which are official institutions. 

Since the year 1992 when he started Laser surgeries , he has given lectures in various congresses and courses and has contributed greatly to the development of this technology.

He has applied more than 50.000 laser treatments since 1992

He has been a member of Turkish Ophthalmology Society (TOD) since 1981.

He was elected to serve as the secretary of Turkish Ophthalmology Society Refractive Surgery department founded in 1999.

Apart from Turkish Ophthalmology Society, he also holds the membership of societies such as American Academy of Ophthalmology, International Society of Refractive Surgery, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

He has more than 150 scientific publications and nearly 50 of them are international publications.

His studies are mostly on Laser and Cataract surgeries.

Since 1992 he has taken place in approximately 70 foreign congresses, symposiums, round tables and courses.

In 2002 he wrote a post graduate book on myopia treatment.

He wrote episodes in 3 home and 3 international publications on Refractive Surgery in 2005.

He played volleyball in Galatasaray Sport Club and National Team during his high school and university years. He performed as the team captain in Galatasaray Volleyball team. Quitting volleyball he became engaged in tennis, squash, and wind surfing. For the last 10 years he has been playing golf. He attends various golf competitions in Turkey and around the world.

He has an oil painting collection consisted of the works by Classic and Contemporary Turkish and international Artists. He has various works of classic artists such as Picasso, Dali, Ayvazovski, Cevat Dereli, Çallı, Hoca Ali Rıza, Civanyan and some and famous contemporary Turkish artists such as Zekai Ormancı, Mustafa Ata, Güngör Taner, Adnan Çoker, Bedri Baykam.

He is married with two children.

Presently, he is the medical director of Acıbadem Eye Health Center - İstanbul  and also has been working in Eye Center Europe in Amsterdam, Holland as its founder.
